ASUS EEE PC – The Real Notebook

Author: Anand | Date: November 29, 2007

I always wondered why people called laptops as notebooks. In my opinion, the term laptop is okay to understand, that it is something over your lap. However, calling laptops as notebook is not appropriate.

Anyway, ASUS is determined to change this. The technology leader in computer and accessories just introduced a laptop that is smaller than a regular school notebook. ASUS call it the EEE PC.

ASUS EEE PC

The EEE is defined as Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play.

Asus EEE PC Specification:

  • Display: 7-inch widescreen LCD display with max 800*480-pixel resolution.
  • Hardware: Intel mobile CPU & Chipset
  • Operating System: Linux, Windows XP compatible
  • Connectivity: 100Mbps Ethernet port & Wi-Fi G support
  • Memory: 512 MB (DDR2)
  • Storage: Flash memory at 8GB, 4GB, and 2GB capacities.
  • Camera: 0.3 Mega Pixel
  • Audio Features: Hi-Definition audio with built-in stereo speakers and microphone
  • Other Features: Card reader, 3 USB 2.0 ports and QWERTY Keyboard
  • Dimension: 6.3 Inch * 8.9 Inch * 1.3 inch
  • Weight: 0.92 kg

However, this PC lacks one of the most common needed feature of blue tooth connectivity.

Because of the use of semi-conductor flash memory instead of regular hard disks; this notebook can work for about 3.5 hrs without re-charge. Another advantage of this type of memory would be its speed. Since there are no moving parts, ASUS EEE PC loads faster than any comparable notebook.

ASUS EEE PC is available in different versions depending on the storage space, useful RAM and other additional features.

ASUS EEE PC is on sale at Amazon.com for $299-$499. (Depends on your configuration)
