ASUS just unveiled their latest laptop in ultra series named U2. The U2 is an ultra-portable laptop designed with lightness and power efficiency in mind. ASUS ensures the power efficiency by using various low-power requirement devices.

U2 has an 11.1-inch WXGA wide screen display capable of producing resolution up to 1366*768 pixels. ASUS reduces the power consumption in display by using LED back lit LCD display.
On an average LCD monitor, 30% of consumed power is utilized by the backlight. Hence, by using LED backlight display ASUS has managed to reduce the power consumption by 25%.
The next innovation in U2 would be the use 32 GB solid-state semiconductor memory drive (SSD) instead of regular mechanical hard drive, which almost reduces the power requirement to half.

The heart of the U2 is an Intel Core Duo ULV (ultra low voltage) 7500 processor, which is designed for such power efficient purposes.
Here is the detailed specification:
- CPU: Intel Core Duo ULV 7500
- Chipset: Intel GM965 Express Chipset
- Display: 11.1-inch LED backlit WXGA LCD display
- Max Resolution: 1366*768 Pixels
- Wi-Fi a/b/g/n support
- 32 GB SSD
- Integrated Webcam
- Windows Vista
Honestly, I think U2 should have an option for a Windows XP version. Windows Vista’s Aero engine takes lots of graphic processing power and that will effectively reduce the overall efficiency attained by using special devices. I hope ASUS will hear this.
