After the Amazon kindle and a bunch of other e-book readers, the e-ink technology creeps into mobile phones. Hitachi being the top runners in the race have already announced about their cell phone with e-ink display, the W61H.

This new phone from Hitachi features a 2.7 inch e-ink display and is nicknamed as Silhouette screen in the back. Japan’s Softbank, the leading mobile carrier has added this phone to its offerings. The users can choose from 95 patterns of the screen.
The Hitachi W61H features:
- 2.7 inch 240×400 pixel display (with Hitachi’s Woo, a technology used in LCD TVs)
- 100mb internal memory
- Micro SD card slot
- Felica for making wireless payments
- EZ Nabi Walk or personal GPS to navigate through the streets
- one seg tuner for watching digital TV on the move with support for recording along with an EPG (Electronic programming guide)

Most of the features that you expect from a Japanese phone are present though the display can’t take care of text messages or email. This phone will be available in green, white and black in the Japanese markets by March.
