Transcend, one of the common names related to memory products just announced their new class 6 SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) memory card, with capacity of 16GB.

This card supports FAT32 file system, which means it can store files sizes larger than 2GB. (The limitation with older FAT file system) It also has a new error correction code (ECC) that will prevent any data loss during quick device removal.
SDHC Explanation:
A new SD format, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity, SD 2.0), allows capacities in excess of 2 GB. SDHC uses the FAT32 file system which supports partition sizes greater than 2 GB. It uses the same form factor as SD, but the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing), thus theoretically reaching a maximum capacity of up to 2048GB. SDHC cards only work in SDHC compatible devices, but standard SD cards work in both SD and SDHC devices. The SDHC trademark is licensed to ensure compatibility.
This new card is targeted towards heavy data uses in high end digital cameras and camcorders. Transcend claims this card has the capacity store up to 8000 7M Pixel JPG photos in its 16GB.
Technical Specifications:
- Class 6 Card supporting speeds up to 6MBps
- Supports FAT32 File System
- ECC (Error Correcting Code) to prevent any data loss.
- SD form factor.
- Based on SD 2.0 technology.
These cards will be available at all major memory retailers in coming months.
